Well, it's the day before Easter Sunday. The house is clean and ready to celebrate Christ's Resurrection. In the kitchen I am sitting next to my mother huddled over portable stove creating beautiful works of art! My mother talks about memories of her childhood sitting next to her father, learning the traditional custom of making "margiciai" (Decorated Easter eggs) "I loved the smell of the beeswax and the homemade kielbasa being prepared in the kitchen" she said. My mother uses a head of a straight pin, attached to the end of a pencil as her stylus. She dips the pin in the wax and quickly creates a magical stroke. With each stroke of her hand a work of art forms. Next, the egg is placed in a dye bath for approximately thirty minutes. After that it is dried off, wax removed and the true beauty of the egg is revealed. We will use these colorful beauties to decorate our Easter table and for a fun "egg taping game." I wonder who will win this year? Stay tuned to see!
